According to Income Tax Act 1961, every person, who is an assesse and whose total income exceeds the maximum exemption limit, shall be chargeable to the income tax at the rate or rates prescribed in the finance act.
On the 11th of november 2009 saw the launching of the web site allowing the direct payment of the income tax, a new way, other than the one, long and irksome, of the administration.
It is an obvious progress which can clearly simplify the life of Indian people and also the files management by the administration.
The Automation of Central Excise and Service Tax (ACES) is a centralized, web based software application which automates various processes of Central Excise and Service Tax for assesses and Department. With this service, all the process is simplified and absolutely safe : the data are captured online, they are studied online, the decisions are made online and the results also are communicated online. It's in real time movement.
The success of this launching is, of course, depending of the assesses goodwill to change the process of treatment with their data. However, there is no doubt that it will be a great profit to them to do. Actually, the internet procedure enables the administration to use a joint, reliable and secure support. In consequence, the transparency is increased, data doesn't get lost any more when they are registered whereas papers passed on to the administration sometimes have a inauspicious tendency to disappear. The implementation of a web site also allows to reduce the visits to the departmental offices, so their efficiency could be strenghtened.
The procedure to be applied by the assesse was carefully prepared and simplified to encourage this one to use this new tool. Indeed, the internet address:
http://www.aces.gov.in enables to access to the ACES login page by clicking on Central Excise or Service Tax. Once identified, the assesse will have an identification number and a password which will allow him to always access to his registered data.
A supplementary service was set up on the web site to help the assesse in the case of some problem by means of a service desk and a free number.
This novelty consequently engenders, through all these advantages, a certain progress. Nevertheless, a change, even positive, is nothing if it is not followed by a massive movement of the Indian people. So, at present, it belongs to all the assesses to take advantage of the new tool which is offered to them.
When Madurai Messenger (formerly Times of Madurai) decided to devote this issue to a theatre special (to commemorate World Theatre Day on March 27), we had an unexpected opportunity to watch the play Hind Swaraj (based on Mahatma Gandhi's book of the same name written in 1908) performed by Parnab Mukherjee and Cordis Paldano at the Madurai Messenger office.
