Silence, we are shooting!

Anthony Virenque, France.

Palagiyathe Privatharka, "to know only to go separate ways", is a Kollywood love movie produced by Sivajothi films. ANTHONY VIRENQUE had the opportunity to see the shooting of one scene from this first movie of S. A. Selva Kumar.

Silence, we are shooting!

Hard work and patience; master words.

We were greeting by the shooting team in the campaign near Sivakasi. The place was quite isolated and we had to walk across the fields to reach some old hindu ruins. All the team was busy to prepare the next scene. About fifty people were working on this place under a burning sun. Some of them were setting the camera; from the screen position to the weight used for the traveling effect. Some others were working on sound recording. The director assistants were running on every direction while Selva Kumar was giving orders to organize the team work. After what, the two mains actors arrived and took position for a few seconds of shooting. The camera did a traveling from above the two actors, the hero laughed two times in close-up and the team went for lunch.

One hour of work for only ten seconds of shooting, that how movies are made. It took much more time because of the localization of the scene. The place was on a kind of hill and the ground wasn't flat. It took so long to carry the equipment and to prepare it in these conditions. It always took times to shoot a movie, each take must be perfect and sometimes you must restart again and again the same scene. At the time of this shooting day, they spent more than forty five days to shoot the half part of the movie and also to record two songs.

Another love story.

In the present case, the localization did the interest of the place; it looks really secret. The story of this movie is about a man who falls in love but the girl is cheating him and marries another man. He comes crazy and kidnapped this girl to bring her to a place that nobody knows. That kidnapping place is of course the secret one we have seen.

Silence, we are shooting!

As you know, love is the favorite topic in India, and unfortunately it's not always a fairy tale. Lots of people get cheated by the one they love. It was the case of S.A. Selva Kumar, he confide us that this story was inspired by some events he lived. Actually, not for the kidnapping! That's why he chose this story to direct his first movie.

Newcomers from Tamil Nadu.

Tamil Nadu is a nice place to start shooting movies; in fact this place is in the third position of Indian movies production with more than 150 films. S. A. Selva Kumar is a self made man in the cinema industry, as a lot of newcomers. He started by being an assistant director for 15 years. He told us that you have to get a great experience, to see and to live many things before starting to direct your own movie.

Recently, several newcomers pierced and made some good movies with only a limited amount of money. The ambition of Selva Kumar doesn't stop here. As he is a great fan of James Cameron and Steven Spielberg his dreams is to work in the Hollywood industry and to have the opportunity to direct a blockbuster. He has already some ideas, as a movie about the link between the earth and the other planets, but I can't tell you more!

Anyway, let's wait for the release of Palagiyathe Privatharka, between love and madness, to see the newcomer's skills. By the way, please women, don't cheat with men!

December 2011 issue

When Madurai Messenger (formerly Times of Madurai) decided to devote this issue to a theatre special (to commemorate World Theatre Day on March 27), we had an unexpected opportunity to watch the play Hind Swaraj (based on Mahatma Gandhi's book of the same name written in 1908) performed by Parnab Mukherjee and Cordis Paldano at the Madurai Messenger office.
