This issue of Sivakasi Times investigates human relationships with the sea. The great expanse of water, covering two thirds of the globe, is something that we have relied upon since the birth of humanity. Yet we continue to pollute and exploit it. Will this breath of the earth survive the constant damage and destruction by mankind?

60th Independence Day

On August 15, 2006 we celebrate our 60th Independence Day. This was the first official national celebration that all could partake in regardless of status or religion. In every household, personal festivity is enjoyed, in every school, the national flag is raised and in every town the sense of nationalism, cohesion and freedom surges.
