In India, village deities and folk religion are an intimate presence in the lives of people. From a sociological perspective, the point of divergences between folk religion and institutionalised religion offer several insights into constructing socio-cultural narratives. Our cover story seeks to capture this symbiosis.
Since inception, Sivakasi Times has had a dual target audience -- the people in and around Sivakasi and the volunteers. Over the years, the cover story explores issues and concerns of special interest to Sivakasians. Hence from this issue onwards, we've introduced several new features such as a people's profile, volunteer profile, a column on adapting to India from a volunteer's perspective, and a serial story penned by volunteers. Sivakasi Times wishes readers a wonderful 2007!
