This engineering college is rated as one of the best in the state. Winner of 34 awards including the prestigious Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan National Award twice for Best Overall Performance and selected as a Centre of Relevance and Excellence in Industrial Safety, MEPCO Schlenk Engineering College is certainly a trail blazer.
In an age where schools and colleges are churning out academic robots and unidimensional individuals, the MEPCO Schlenk College has chosen the road less traveled. When I read Steffani Rose’s cover story on the college, an interesting viewpoint by the principal Dr. S. Balakrishnan caught my attention.
“Success does not mean the absence of failures; it means the attainment of ultimate objectives. No one can make you fell inferior without your consent. It is you, you have to focus on your strengths and manage your weakness.”
Such a personally empowering attitude recognised the unity of the head and the heart as equally important for a successful life. Students of the college are unanimous that such a personalised approach and supportive faculty make it more an extended family rather than an impersonal engineering college. I found it uplifting that the college was as concerned about building responsible humane people as they were about turning out engineers par excellence. What do we have? Engineers with a human touch!
