Twins of SHNV School

What do these people have in common? Nakula and Sahadeva in the Indian epic the Mahabharata, Apollo and Artemis, Jacob and Easu, Romulus and Remus, Jenna and Barbara Bush? All twins, of course! I recall watching the hilarious Walt Disney fi lm The Parent Trap which stars Haley K Mills in a double role as twin daughters and the bloomers that happen as a result of mistaken identities!

Multiple births, although increasingly common these days, still fascinate and intrigue. As students of psychology, twins were the chosen ones to explore and debate the nature vs. nurture debate: Do identical twins with their identical gene pool behave differently when raised in different environments?

The Sivakasi Hindu Nadar Victoria School has the unique distinction of being the school with the highest number of twins in the world: fi fty nine pairs. Dorett Odoni explores the fascinating world of twins with her in depth discussions with a few of the twins she got to talk to. What emerges clearly is that undoubtedly twins share a special bond and are perfect “natural companions” to each other.

From next month onwards the Sivakasi Times is being shifted to Madurai. It will hereafter appear in its new avatar: Madurai Times. We thank our readers in and around Sivakasi who have been supportive of us all these years. Through Madurai Times, we will continue to reach out to our Sivakasi readers, while simultaneously widening our ambit to welcome new readers into our fold.

The Sivakasi Times team looks forward to the challenge and to imparting new dimensions to its commitment to community journalism. We are inclined to agree with the wise soul who declared that the only constant in the world is change: the certainty of uncertainty!
